I was invited to a dinner event tonite, a casual fundraising gathering for a foundation who's vision is for a better tomorrow. I know its vague ... but let me say watch this space for updates on what this foundation will be doing in future when i have more details and I'm at more liberty to share more
My PR partner who was supposed to go with me fell sick so i almost had to go alone and I always make it a point to escape attending events that are far removed from my comfort zone.
As you age, you get too comfortable in a "zone" of things you do that you deem are safe and non-threatening to ur sense of routine and self. This zone does seem to shrink month by month and year by year if we don't consciously push it outwards by taking a leap of faith once in a while and trying something different. The youthful vigour of throwing caution to the wind is not as easy to come by as our minds tend to throw up all kinds of rationalisations to "what if".
I was planning to attend the event regardless, but a kind soul decided to accompany me and I'm grateful to her.
The evening turned out to be a wonderful one and we were lucky to be seated at a small table with individuals who are similarly energised with life, compassionate, passionate and dynamic. Its always encouraging and energizing to speak with people who believe in the work they do, who believe in a better tomorrow whatever that tomorrow may be and who also are confident enough to share vulnerabilities and doubts they have about certain things, even if its themselves.
Tonite was fun ... and inspiring.
Take away from tonite:
- people will surprise and uplift you if you are lucky enough to meet those who have similar energies and drives
