Got this DVD yesterday (as well as Cleopatra) ... there were many more from that era and I hope to go back and get the rest later. Decided I shouldn't be extravagant and get all of them at once.

Watching it now I'm amazed at the talent in the movie by all the performers, not just Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire.

Shared this with a younger friend of mine and when I showed him the youtube video he said ... "Oh you're watching to old version."

Old version!??! ... I said its the original version and the one where the talent and dancing is unmatchable by the new version!

So if you haven't seen the 1937 version .. here's a youtube video of:

This finally arrived after weeks being stuck in Malaysian customs for clearance.

Fame inspired me to wanna sing and dance ... mostly dance ... when I was young.

Watching a couple of episodes of the 1st season ... I'm discovering new things in the series. It was a series that tried to impart values, perspectives or lessons of life in each episode.

I wonder why some of TV today can't have the same premise.

Some lines from the series:

You got big dreams, you want fame?

Well ... fame costs. And right here's where you start paying.

In sweat.
--------

I'm dead to you boy. You've got no more family in this world.
I got family. They just have different last names.

Watched bits of this wonderful movie at a fren's place in Bangkok last weekend. The dance sequences are colourful & beautiful.

Here are two of my favourite bits of the movie I could find on Youtube.

The layering of the choreography in this one is brilliant and Aishwarya Rai's beauty and performance is breathtaking.

The flame is a symbol of her love and she's protecting it from being extinguished.

the last two weeks have been a sort of re-awakening for me

it started when a fren asked me if i wanted to watch P Ramlee ... a malaysian mega-musical running for the second time at the Istana Budaya http://pramleethemusical.com

P Ramlee was interesting but I thought the leading man cud have been more of a leading man and i felt the script could be tighter .... and I wondered what i shud be taking away after the 3 hour performance ....shrug.... maybe i think too much for this type of theatre. but some of the singing was wonderful to hear and the staging was amazing

Joyce asked if I was a Bharatanatyam purist or wud i be open to watching Odissi ... thanks to her we went to watch an amazing performance of indian dance

i only managed a glimpse into the world of Indian dance when i collaborated with Arul on Abhinaya - Journey Of My Return http://www.journeyofreturn.org/

its was something i started but never got to really experience

Stirring Odissi ... its been a while since i watched a piece of performance art that moved me .....the piece by the sutra dance theatre was beautiful and inspiring .... wat's interesting is the person behind Sutra Dance Theatre is trained in ballet

it wud have to be the art form that i can't keep away from that makes me think .... hmm ... maybe i'm not too old to go for classes again

so i'm gonna give Sutra Dance Theatre a call and ask about their beginners Bharatanatyam classes starting in July .... stay tuned for reports of aches and pains as this old bag of bones ventures into performance arts again
